Frequently asked questions
Is it already available?
It’s available for pre-order on crowdfunding platform Indiegogo: we are currently working on laboratory testing and running clinical trials on the device. The initial batch will be made in fall 2017 and serial production will begin at the end of the year.
If I place my order and pay it off in advance, will it be sure to get a product this year?
We are working hard to make sure that everyone gets their pre-ordered product in the second half of 2019 and can use the service.
How is it different from the fitness trackers already on the market?
The MAP Health Watch will be an FDA-approved and CE-certified medical device as the medical-grade sensors provide much more precise measurements than regular fitness trackers. The data recorded is first analyzed with patented medical algorithms and then reviewed by specialist doctors to identify personal risk factors and the first signs of potential health problems. This supports both prevention and for any problems to be treated in the early phases, when there is a greater chance of success.
Does it tell the time?
Yes, it can also be used as a normal wristwatch.
Is it waterproof?
To a certain extent: you can wash your hands while wearing it, but it’s not suitable for swimming or scuba diving.
Does it come with a charger and is it compatible with standard chargers?
Naturally, the device comes with a charger, which can be connected to a computer or mains outlet via a USB cable (the cable comes boxed with the device).
How long is the battery life? Is it replaceable?
The battery inside the watch is designed to last for at least 1,000 charges, and can be replaced by a specialist repair center. A watch strap containing an additional battery for longer life is also available as an optional accessory.
How long does it take to charge? Is one charge enough for 24 hours’ use?
The total charge time is just over an hour, and the watch can be used continuously for at least 24 hours on a full charge.
How do I connect the device?
The device sends the data to our servers via a secure Bluetooth connection through either a smartphone or external 3G GSM module, which can be purchased separately.
When should I wear it?
For more precise predictions and alerts, it is advisable to wear the device as regularly and as consistently as possible.
Are there different user modes? For sport or sleeping, for example?
As well as the normal mode, the watch can also be switched to “Training” mode when you are enaged in sporting activity, enabling the data collected to be evaluated in the correct context.
How can I interpret the results? Is there a set range for each parameter?
When we evaluate the results, we don’t simply compare them with a pre-defined range, we evaluate the changes in the measurements recorded relative to the individual. Our algorithms are formed from a combination of rule-based diagnostic models using the results of medical studies and clinical experience, and machine learning algorithms based on neural networks developed from large data samples.
What happens if I press the panic button?
The contents of the MAP Health Service can vary depending on the country or region you are located in, but the following is always included:
- With our 24-hour customer service, one of our healthcare professionals can check the latest data provided by the watch immediately, and if necessary also refer to the results of earlier data (as long as the user has given us permission to access previously recorded data).
- An alert is sent via email and/or text message to any people designated by the user, providing:
- Notification of the alert
- The values recorded at the moment the alarm was raised, as well as any events preceding it (e.g. presumed fall) and any irregularities identified by the health care professional
In countries where the supporting infrastructure permits it, and if indicated by the data, an ambulance can be sent immediately to the location identified using the smartphone’s GPS sensor.
What is the automatic fall detector?
An algorithm based on the data from the accelerometer provides an alert if the user appears to have fallen. The accuracy of the detection is not 100% fail-safe, but it can be a useful indicator in correlation with dramatic changes in the user’s vital signs.
What does the device measure at night?
Essentially, there is no difference between daytime and nighttime measurement. Some of the sensors may collect data less frequently, but this will not be apparent to the user.
Does it have a pedometer (step counter)?
Yes, the device can also be used as a conventional fitness tracker for sporting activities.
Does it have a guarantee?
Of course: two years from the date of purchase.
How much warranty does the watch have, what happens if it fails? Will there be a local service or need to be sent abroad?
1 year manufacturer’s warranty. Negotiations are already underway with major domestic service and collection networks.
How often does the device measure? So does the device do this automatically at intervals, or do I have to start the measurements manually?
Everything except ECG and blood pressure is automatic. These two require user help. Blood pressure is mathematically calculated at the same time as the ECG measurement.
If I want the watch in black, do I have to indicate the color somehow in the order process?
You are not yet able to indicate the order process. Currently, only a combination of silver watches and black straps is available. You will be able to choose colors later.
How does the device indicate when something is wrong? For example, is there a slight increase in heat, higher blood pressure? I'm thinking of such minor differences. What happens exactly when there is a bigger problem, so a heart attack is suspected?
The device will show a different color in the application if it detects a larger deviation or deviation. In parallel, he is signaling this to the live health team. They will contact you (the watch has a microphone and a speaker). The first step is to measure an ECG that is seen on the monitors at the same time. After analyzing the data, they follow a strict protocol. A close relative, a doctor or emergency responders are also notified.
Is it free? Are there any paid features?
The MAP Health Watcher app is free to download and all of its features are free to use.
What does the app do exactly, apart from forwarding the data to the central server?
It displays up-to-the-minute results, notifications sent by the system and historical data, as well as supporting sharing of data with loved ones and medical professionals.
Can I turn off the forwarding function if I don’t want to pass on any of the values recorded in any form?
You can stop forwarding the data. However, this means that only the current values and results previously recorded in the database will be visible. The system will not be able to send real-time notifications or analyze the results of new data.
Will I get ads on my phone?
No. This app doesn’t contain any ads.
Will there be some kind of app for the product that may aggregate the measured data or only show on the watch display?
The application is ready for both Android and IOS. In addition, the service includes a personalized web interface where we can view and share our previous data and analyzes.
Will there be a step counter in the product? If yes, does it measure the distance traveled (in meters or km)?
Yes, there will be a pedometer and a separate training menu. It does not measure the distance traveled. You can do this with your phone using many free applications.
What is the basic service?
The basic service is a monthly subscription that allows the data from the MAP Health Watch to be synchronized with our servers and analyzed in real-time to identify the first signs that something could be wrong. We also ask you to provide medical information on yourself to create a personal profile free of charge, which is then correlated continuously with the data from the watch. Every six months, you will also receive a detailed report on how your vital statistics have changed and what you might need to look out for. Should any potential problem arise, you will be contacted by a member of our specialist team of doctors, who will provide you with a tailored cause of action and recommend you see a physician or go for further tests if necessary.
How much will the monthly service cost?
The monthly fee is 8.000 HUF gross (VAT is 0% as health service)
What will my personal profile contain?
Each user’s personal profile combines key information such as age, weight and gender with medical history and historical data collected by other doctors or the MAP Health Watch itself. It is constantly updated to reflect the changing circumstances of the user and can be accessed at any time through the MAP Health Watcher web interface.
Can I access and share the rich MAP Health Watch data with my physician or a loved one?
In addition to receiving health reports via email and accessing them via the MAP Health Watch web interface, you can also grant access to the data to up to three members of your family and your physician via the MAP Health Watcher app and our web interface. Access can also be granted to emergency services if this is supported in your country or region.
Can the MAP Health Watch work independently of the service?
The MAP Health Watch can collect data and send it to your phone independently, but without access to the advanced analytics functionality of our servers, this can only ever be of limited value. Working in tandem with the clinical-grade sensors in the device, it is the connection to our AI engine and the medical support offered by MAP Health Watcher as a paid subscription service that is the truly unique feature of the device.
Can you save the data to your PC?
We do not offer this feature for the simple reason that this data is highly sensitive and we would not want it to get into the wrong hands. We strongly believe that your personal health data should not be accessible to anyone who might get access to your device.
What additional extras are available and how much will they cost?
While six-monthly email reports are included in the basic service, you can also request more frequent reports (quarterly or monthly) for an additional fee. Pricing is yet to be determined. We are also planning to offer a 24/7 Medical Call Center service depending on your country or region.
Can I speak to a doctor from the MAP Health Watcher team?
Yes, if our system indicates there might be a serious issue with your health, you will be personally called by a MAP Health Watcher medical specialist. This will be a standard cell phone call and is included in the basic service. We may also introduce an optional paid helpline in certain countries and regions to help users evaluate their data and offer personalized medical advice.
What exactly does the MAP Health Watcher report contain?
The reports are written by trained medical professionals and will contain a general overview of your health, including changes over the given period of your vital signs, analysis of correlated data, evaluation of risk factors and personalized health care advice.
Who are the MAP Health Watcher medical professionals and what is their area of specialization?
Our doctors are trained in evaluating the data provided by the MAP Health Watch and all have extensive experience in dealing with emergencies. Generally speaking, they hold specializations in cardiology and internal medicine.
As a doctor myself, can I join the MAP team?
We are planning to offer the MAP Health Watcher service in various countries and will be looking to expand our team as user numbers grow. If you would like to join MAP, please submit your email address or connect with us via LinkedIn and we will be in touch in due course.
What do the sensors measure exactly, and what data is collected by the system?
With the help of five sensors, MAP measures six vital parameters. The ECG (Einthoven I lead) and blood pressure data is collected daily whenever necessary, while your pulse, skin temperature, electrodermal activity and movement are measured continuously.
How reliable are the measurements recorded by the sensors?
For medical use, one of the biggest problems of the data collected by fitness trackers and smartwatches is the accuracy of the measurements and possible interference. In other words, their recorded data is not particularly reliable. This is why the MAP signal-processing solution focuses on deriving reliable results from signals affected by significant levels of interference. To achieve this, it was necessary to create custom signal-processing algorithms capable of producing results with the necessary degree of accuracy and reliability, without creating processing demands that exceed realistic capacity. We have developed sophisticated, patented processes that adapt to the shape of the signals received, classifying the reliability of the results taken from the individual sensors with the help of fuzzy logic by using the information taken from the other sensors to ensure that these measurements are reliable enough for medical purposes.
What are the stages of the data processing?
With the aid of the unique medical analytic system we have developed, we are able to analyze the recorded and shared data, using both rule-based diagnostic models and machine learning algorithms.
- The device continually measures vital parameters.
- The data is sent to our servers via a secure Bluetooth connection to your smartphone or a separate 3G GSM module.
- The data on the server is processed using rule-based and neural algorithms.
- The aim of the processing is to diagnose dangerous situations and identify potential risks to your health.
- In addition to AI processing, specialist doctors regularly analyze the collected data.
- The system makes the recorded data and associated risk factors available to both the user and to health care professionals.
- If any danger to your health should arise at any time, MAP can provide immediate assistance, 24 hours a day, as well as offering medical consultation (depending on your country or region).
